National Literacy and Numeracy Week

Storybook characters from the Pelican class enjoy sharing their favourite books as part of Literacy and Numeracy Week.

Beaconsfield State School celebrated the 15th Anniversary of National Literacy and Numeracy week during the 29th July and 4th August with a number of fun activities. A number facts challenge and spelling bee were conducted with students learning a core list of spelling words and number facts in the week prior to the challenges. First, second and third prizes were awarded to students in both challenges held across every year level from Prep through to Yr7.

Another fun activity to celebrate the week involved a "Dress-Up Day", where students and staff were encouraged to come to school dressed as their favourite Storybook Characters as they brought along their storybook to share! Judges had a difficult time choosing the best dressed characters in each year level, with some intricate and detailed costume characters making an appearance as a result of the hard work of some dedicated parents and family members.

Overall the school community had a fantastic week, showcasing the wonderful literacy and numeracy skills of the students while celebrating our love of reading, writing, spelling and numeracy!
